CS 8803 DML: Data Management and Machine Learning
(Fall 2018)
Paper Presentation
Each student is expected to present two papers. Depending
on the size of the class, you could end up presenting one or
three papers. If you are presenting one paper, your grade
will be solely based on that one presentation. If you are
presenting two papers, your grade will the average of the two.
If you are presenting three papers, your grade will be the
average of the best two presentations out the three.
In each class, the instructor will first give a brief summary
of the two papers, followed by two student presenters. In terms
of time constraints, the instructor will take ~15 minutes.
Each presentation is expected to be ~20 minutes, followed by
a ~10 minutes discussion led by the presenter.
If you have trouble understanding the technical content of the
paper you are presenting or you would like general advice on the
presentation or slides, you should schedule an appointment with
the instructor well in advance of your presentation date.
Scheduling
- The preference needs to be emailed to the Instructor and the TA by 9pm EST
Aug 26.
- The title of the email needs to be "CS 8803 DML
Scheduling {Your GT User ID}"
- The body of the email contains a list of at least five
papers in decreasing order of preference
- Although there is no guarantee that you will get your
preferred papers, the instructor will try best to accommodate
your preference by taking into account your preference, as
well as the time your sent in your preference. The earlier you
sent in your preference, the higher chance you will get your
preferred assignment. You will get 10 bonus points if you
sign up to present papers for the first week of student
presentation (09/04 and 09/06).
- The presentation schedule will then be announced by 9pm
EST Aug 29.
Slides Submission
- The presentation slides needs to be emailed to the Instructor and the TA by 9pm EST
the night before your presentation.
- The title of the email needs to be "CS 8803 DML
Presentation {Your GT User ID} {Title of the Paper}"
- The slides should be sent as an email attachment.
Grading
Each presentation will be evaluated on a 100 points scale by the
instructor.
- Clarify: 40 points
- Organization: 10 point
- Discussion: 50 points
- Bonus: 10 point ( for raising an innovative idea
that was not present in the paper, or presentations in 09/04
or 09/06)
