CS 8803 DMM: Data Management and Machine Learning
(Fall 2020)
Paper Presentation
Each student is expected to present 1-2 papers, in group of 1-3 students, depending on the class size.
Each presentation is expected to be ~50 minutes, followed by
a ~25 minutes discussion led by the presenters.
If you have trouble understanding the technical content of the
paper you are presenting or you would like general advice on the
presentation or slides, you should schedule an appointment with
the instructor well in advance of your presentation date.
Slides Submission
- The presentation slides needs to be sent to the Instructor and the TA by 6pm EST
the night before your presentation via Slack
How to present a paper
50 minutes presentation
- Problem motivation/definition/main results
- Choose what to present, choose to leave out
- Include necessary technical background
- Discuss how the ideas can be improved
25 minutes presentation
- One student acts as the champion of the paper, one acts the critics of the paper
- Discuss the paper assumptions
- Discuss the paper’s evaluation methods
- Discuss how the ideas can be improved
Grading
Each presentation will be evaluated on a 100 points scale by the
instructor.
- Clarity and Content: 50 points
- Discussion: 50 points
